Motocross rider Joel Evans Passed Away following a crash at Gillman Speedway in Adelaide
Motocross Community Mourns the Loss of Joel Evans Following Tragic Gillman Crash
Round three of the 2025 Australian ProMX Championship at Gillman ended in heartbreak as MX1 privateer Joel Evans tragically passed away following a serious on-track incident. In the wake of the devastating news, the remainder of Sunday’s event was immediately cancelled, as the motocross community came together to grieve and honour one of its most passionate competitors.
Born in 1994, Joel was 30 years old. His love for motocross was ignited early, riding a 50cc bike as a child and growing up immersed in a family deeply rooted in the sport. Despite facing a major setback over a decade ago—a severe back injury that required multiple surgeries—Joel’s resilience saw him defy the odds and return to the race track stronger and more determined than ever.
A true privateer at heart, Joel dedicated his life to chasing his racing dreams. He travelled the country to compete, documenting his journey through a widely admired YouTube channel that captured both the highs and the struggles of life in motocross. For Joel, success was never measured by trophies or sponsorships; it was about passion, perseverance, and the sheer love of riding.
His sister, Renae Evans, expressed the family’s immense sorrow while reflecting on her brother’s indomitable spirit.
"What do you say when you have no words? Yesterday our lives changed forever," Renae wrote. "Intuitively, I woke with a deeper calling for presence. My heart’s daily reminder was ‘appreciate what you have, don’t wait until it’s gone’. Eight hours later, I got the call no one ever wants to receive. Joel was doing what he loved and was living one of the happiest chapters of his life—but that doesn't make goodbye any easier. He used to joke about not wanting to grow old. Now, he never has to."
Tributes across the motocross world poured in, celebrating Joel's courage, determination, and impact. Honda Racing Australia’s Director, Yarrive Konsky, paid tribute to Joel’s enduring spirit, saying:
"Joel lived for the dream. Every dollar he earned, every sacrifice he made, was to get him to the next race. He embodied the true essence of a motocross warrior—a dream chaser in its purest form."
Joel’s passing is a stark reminder of the incredible sacrifices made by privateers—the unsung heroes who fuel the lifeblood of professional motocross. Though the financial rewards are few, the passion and dedication shown by riders like Joel inspire the very heart of the sport.
Today, the motocross community honours Joel Evans: his resilience, his heart, and the legacy he leaves behind. His spirit will live on in every rider who lines up at the gate, chasing dreams on two wheels with the same fierce passion that defined Joel’s remarkable life.
Rest in peace, Joel. You will never be forgotten.
